WHO IS IT FOR?

OVERVIEW

This 3 days course (City and Guilds Level 2 6160-03 Working in High Risk Confined Spaces) is a qualification for all those who are required to work, as part of their main job, in confined spaces which have been classified as high risk. Training is undertaken within regulation guidelines and once completed, learners should have gained enough knowledge to pass the assessment and enter high risk confined spaces. Participants will take part in both practical and theoretical training. Our instructors are highly qualified, and experienced, to help ensure that you receive the correct training. This course reflects the national occupational standard for High Risk Confined Spaces. It covers both water and non-water industry areas.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Anybody that works in confined spaces such as tanks and silos, vats or reaction vessels, can benefit from this training. Supervisors and Managers would also require this training as they may be required to check, supervise or assist the work that is conducted.
This high risk course is a prerequisite to the City & Guilds 6160-08 - Working as a Member of a Rescue and Recovery team in Confined Spaces training course, it also includes training on the use of breathing apparatus.

WHAT DO I NEED?

PRE-REQUISITES

Candidates will need to sign a medical form prior to the start of the course. Physical exertion will be required therefore candidates need a good level of health and fitness. Candidates should not suffer from claustrophobia and / or nyctophobia (fear of small spaces or darkness).

The minimum entry requirement is a good understanding of spoken and written English. If you have concerns in this area, please call us on 01275 398 665. The minimum age of attendance for this course is 16 years old, however delegates who are under the age of 18 must bring a completed parental consent form to the first day of the training course.

TOPIC AREAS

  • Prepare to work safely in High Risk confined spaces
  • Enter and exit High Risk confined spaces safely
  • Prepare and use self-contained open circuit breathing apparatus in accordance with manufacturers specifications
  • Use equipment and tools in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions
  • Follow procedures, work safely and deal with an emergency
  • Use appropriate behaviour when working in High Risk confined spaces
  • Use general knowledge for working in High Risk confined spaces
  • Apply appropriate industry specific knowledge for working in High Risk confined spaces
ANY EXAMS I NEED TO PASS?

ASSESSMENTS

Need to attend the 3 day course and pass both written and practical assessments.

WHAT WILL I GET WHEN I PASS THE COURSE?

CERTIFICATION

Delegates successfully completing the course will be issued with a Certification by City and Guilds, Level 2 Award in 6160-03 Working in High Risk Confined Spaces which is valid for 3 years. Recertification for this course is required/encouraged every 3 years, candidates should retrain within a 3 year period to maintain their competencies, update skills and knowledge.

Re-qualification

The certificate is valid for 3 years. You would need to attend the 3 day course again to be re-certified.

Medium Risk

We also offer a Level 2 Award in Entrant and Entry Controller for Confined Spaces Medium Risk 6160-09 2 days.

Rescuer

We also offer a Level 3 Award in Working as a Member of a Rescue and Recovery team in Confined Spaces 6160-08 which runs for 2 days. You would need Level 2 Award in Working in High Risk Confined Spaces 6160-03 for this course.
